Dr. Cox is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. She has 2 brothers, one who is studying mechanical engineering at Arizona state university, and the other who is an actuary. Her mom is a yoga instructor and nurse, and her dad is an actuary. Dr. Cox says that she definitely got her love of animals from her mom. They even have matching cat tattoos! She has been dressed in animal clothing for as long as she can remember.
Dr. Cox attended Purdue and majored in Animal Sciences with a minor in biology. She moved to Florida to attend vet school at the University of Florida where she completed her DVM. Dr. Cox also has a certificate in Shelter Medicine. She was president of her class for all 4 years of vet school! She worked as a zookeeper in undergrad, including taking care of primates, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and all sorts of mammals. She also worked in a research lab studying human nutrition, food deserts, food availability, and food assistance programs to evaluate the effect of income and access to food on overall dietary intake.
She shares her life with her partner, who is currently working on his PhD, and: 3 cats- Pumpkin, Bugs, and TJ, plus two gerbils, Eragon and Rhysand. She says that her cats are looking forward to having a screened patio again so they can properly supervise the wildlife around the house.
She is excited to meet our clients and their pets, get to know everyone and do some surgeries. Client education is one of her favorite parts of veterinary medicine. She likes to use the team approach when working with clients and give animals the best life possible.
Dr. Cox is absolutely in love with cats. She began fostering at the age of 10 and has fostered close to 400 cats since then! Her goal is to make veterinary practices more feline friendly. She would like to become a certified feline friendly practitioner in the future.
In her spare time, Dr. Cox enjoys playing dungeons and dragons with friends, reading cheesy YA novels, going for trail runs, and soaking up the sun any other way possible.
Her favorite foods are donuts and nachos, and her favorite thing to do while traveling is check out all the local restaurants and coffee shops.
